On World Population Day, we took to the streets of Zurich to talk to people, raise awareness, and hand out free condoms.

Is the world overpopulated? According to ARD and the United Nations, we would need almost three Earths if everyone lived like Europeans, and almost five if everyone lived like Americans.
OVOLPE believes that the world is overpopulated and that growth is not yet over.

Should contraceptives be free worldwide? We asked passersby on Bahnhofstrasse during an interview.

In the second interview, we wanted to know what people think about abortion and contraception.

The voices from Zurich show how diverse opinions are.

The family planning (FP) program is one of our key approaches to managing population growth and improving people's quality of life—in particular by regulating how many births per woman occur and over what period of time. Given high birth rates and challenges in the area of reproductive health, promoting and educating people about family planning is crucial to raising public awareness and participation, especially among couples of childbearing age.

Our overall goal is to increase knowledge, awareness, and participation in family planning and reproductive health programs, especially among couples of childbearing age, in order to support the creation of healthy, prosperous, and high-quality families while reducing unwanted pregnancies and maternal and infant mortality.

Since the beginning of 2024, the OVOLPE Foundation has been supporting an educational project on family planning for schoolgirls in Thailand, in cooperation with the Pratthanadee Foundation.

The aim of the project is to provide young women with essential knowledge about contraception, financial planning and self-determination, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future.

The "Better Me for Girls" program targets underprivileged girls aged 14 to 18 attending public schools in northeast Thailand, one of the poorest regions of the country. It includes four practical workshops:

  • Preparing for Success

  • Family Planning

  • Financial Planning

  • Risk Prevention

A successful start to the project:
In June 2024, the first workshop of the program took place. During the three-hour training session, 411 middle and high school students in the provinces of Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket received valuable guidance on defining their personal goals and actively shaping their future.

We are delighted to tell you today about our unique MTU-OVOLPE FP course project in Pattaya, Thailand.

The three-month pilot phase proves that professional information and knowledge transfer can improve and optimize living conditions on planet Earth.

To date, the OVOLPE FP course has already provided 171 teenagers and young adults with basic knowledge about birth control, thereby offering them the opportunity to make decisions that will improve their quality of life.

We are delighted to tell you about our unique OVOLPE family planning course project with help2kids in Tanzania.

At the beginning of 2024, we began working with help2kids to develop a comprehensive family planning course consisting of four modules that build on each other.

At the same time, we commissioned help2kids to start the application and selection process for key project roles. These include the project manager, a monitoring and evaluation officer, and several course instructors who will implement the course directly in the community in the future.

1.     1. Awareness raising in households

Of the 300 households targeted for awareness raising, 267 were visited and educated. This corresponds to a coverage rate of 89%.

2.     2. Distribution of contraceptives
Of the households that received awareness training, 62 women received an injection with Sayana Press. Of these 62 women, 30 were new users who had not previously used any method of contraception. This number appears low because not all women need to use Sayana Press, as some use other methods or opt for methods that are not available in the community. In this case, the health workers refer these women to the health center. However, thanks to the close support provided by the health workers in the community, the number of injections in the community will increase in the coming months.

 3. Awareness raising in schools
A total of 232 students from Rubirizi I Primary School and Rubirizi Technical School, including 123 boys and 109 girls, were educated about family planning and the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. The awareness-raising measures in the schools focused mainly on the topic of family planning and the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. A question and answer session was also held to ensure that the students had understood everything correctly. The questions often focused on unwanted pregnancies and the range of contraceptive methods available.
